Marghazhi Matram is a unique programme conceived and curated by Dr. Ranjini Ramachander Kaushik, Founder, SciArtsRUs to honour and showcase the visual artists with disabilities who have made a mark in their areas of expertise. The main objective of Marghazhi Matram is to bring the nuances of numerous talents across all strata of society and to offer a deep musical experience that goes beyond entertainment and individual virtuosic display to tap the hidden talents and artistic abilities of differently-abled people.
The fourth edition of Marghazhi Matram or Marghazhi with a change, will be held for 8 days on December 3, 6, 8, 9,10, 28, 29, and 30 in Chennai in three different venues.
The following awards will be presented this year:
- Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to visually impaired veteran Veena artist St. Hemalatha Mani
- Padmashri Kalaimamani Dr. Narthaki Nataraj with the Trailblazer Award for her contributions to the transgender fraternity
- Rising Star Awards will be given to artists, Smt. Vaikom Vijayalakshmi and Ms. Kanmoni Sasi, from Kerala with visual and physical impairment respectively
- Vasantha Ramachander Memorial Scholarship will be given to Arjun Srinivas
- Ms. M Lalithambigai, President, SFRWD with the Role Model Award and
- Shri Chetan Upadhyay, Founder, Nav Utthan with the Spotlight Award
The concerts, inclusive events, are held at different venues. Dakshinamurthy Auditorium (PS High School), Mylapore, NCAHT-IIT Madras, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (Mylapore).
Concerts are open to rasikas.
