Students of music and research scholars make it a point to attend the lecdem sessions at The Music Academy. The academic sessions happen in the morning at
Kasturi Srinivasan Hall (mini hall) at the Music Academy campus.
The sessions are generally presided over by the 'Sangita Kalanidhi' designate of the year. This year due to the indisposition of the Sangita Kalanidhi designate Bombay Jayashri, the previous years' Sangita Kalanidhi awardees are taking turns to preside over the sessions.

One of the first organisations to host the December 'season' concerts and cultural events is Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Mylapore. Its location advantage of being in the heart of the city and the concerts being open to all, attract core audiences to the concerts.
There are three concerts on most days and a few weekdays have two concerts in the evening. The concerts are held in association with the South Zone Cultural Centre.
